Art in the Age and The Historical Society of Pennsylvania present a limited edition stationary run featuring Civil War artwork from the HSP collection. The first three cards feature images that were originally printed on envelopes. The use of decorated envelopes began around 1840, and they gained popularity as pieces of propaganda during the Civil War. Practically all the slogans, caricatures, allegories, satirical or propaganda pieces were pro-Union. They often featured patriotic themes and poked fun at the Confederate States of America and its central figure, President Jefferson Davis. Many of these envelopes were used by the U.S. Mail and collected as souvenirs by soldiers and civilians, as they wrote letters to one another.

These cards were printed on Original Heidelbergs by Mad Maude Letterpress in Philadelphia.
