RADIOHEAD: Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-mix!
One of the most interesting tracks we've seen come out of Radiohead's Remix Contest is this video by electronic musician (and obvious technology fetishist) James Houston:
Though it takes a while to build, he ends up with a really interesting take on the remix. Instead of dropping the files straight into Garage Band and throwing some tinny loops over them, Houston reconstructs each track with bits of antiquated technology, resulting in a video equally reminiscent of the Fischli/Weiss extraordinary machine The Way Things Go and the halcyon days of the Nintendo Entertainment System.
Particularly inspired is the use of an array of old hard drives to reproduce Thom Yorke's silky voice and Little Mermaid-esque croon.
And in case you haven't seen it, make sure you check out the slo-mo-fest that is Radiohead's official video for Nude (Scotch Mist Version).
